Seriously, it may only be me but I feel like side hugs are for those around the age of a third grader. Let me put on my rant hat for just a moment.
See this has been bothering me for a few weeks now. I went out to a bar with some friends a few weeks ago, one of my college best friends (Berry) was with me and we went up to the bar to order another drink. As we stood waiting to approach the bar at Lucky Lous, a place we frequented as our drinking ages began, two very sweet guys approached us and bought us drinks. But this isn’t about that story of those two poor boys that approached us. No this is about a friend that I saw just after telling those boys nicely to go away.
I won’t bore you with details of the conversation, rather I’ll just skip to the end. By this point Berry had left me to go back to her boyfriend and my friend was about to leave. He reached out for a hug, and I was expecting a full body one, but no he gives me a side hug.
I had no idea what to do with me head, let alone the other half of my body. I just let the left side of body exposed to the bar patrons while the other half was on someone else’s side.
Why at the age of 22 are we still giving f’ing side hugs to people? The only appropriate time to give a side hug is when you are taking a group freaking picture. Side hugs are basically you saying I don’t know if I should give you a hug or just walk away.
We are supposed to be adults ya know. Commit to a full body hug or just walk away bro. Rant hat coming off.
