By this point, I am sure you have broken or altered, your New Years Eve resolutions. And I am sure this is the same thing that happened last year. You set some kind of amazing goal for the first of the new year to be the day you got it all together, the day you became a better you.
New Year’s Eve resolutions are a joke. In my opinion, and this is my blog so I can state it as so. January 1st is the worst day out of 365 days to get your life ‘together’.
I would wager that out of all the promises, told or untold, in the universe the ones made for the new year have the hifhest probability of being broken.
I do not understand what is so magical about December 31st. Sure if you have a huge life altering thing happen then I get why it would be special in a way. But it’s just a night you party with family or friends to mark a trip around the sun. I bet you won’t have to think too hard about days that mean something significant to you and they probably won’t have December 31st or January 1st in them.
We put this huge halo on New Years Eve. You have to go out with a bang and how you start the new year will be how your whole year will be. Drunken resolutions made the night before filled with promise that it will be so this year. This year is going to be your year, this time you’ll get it right.
I literally think this is one of the stupidest things I have EVER heard. Okay, maybe not the stupidest but it’s up there. We put a lot of hype into a day for it to fail so eaisly. Then what you give up and say I’ll try again next year?
If you want to change your life then just do it. You want to stop eating so much junk food throw that crap out right now. Go to your kitchen, turn on something you can jam to, and clean it out! Go to the grocery store and make smarter more conscientious decisions, talk to a doctor or nutritionist. But don’t wait for some mythical day to come around.
If you want to change your life then just do it. You want to pick up those books you’ve been saying for years you’ll read. Then grab one tonight read a chapter instead of staring at your phone before bed. Try it and tell me if you don’t get better sleep. But don’t wait for some mythical day to come around.
If you want to change your life then just do it. You want to get your body in shape sign up for that exercise class. There is no better time than today to do it. You want to get a new job put time into applying for one. Whatever it is that you want to do stop saying to yourself I’ll do it later and go do it now. But don’t wait for some mythical day to come around.
Any day can be the day you started being a better you. December 31st and January 1st do not hold all that power.
When I look back on all the days I got my life together one-year ending and another beginning had nothing to do with it. It was me saying I am tried of how I am living and today I will change that. Today I will make an effort to be a better me.
So what will you do today to make you a better you?
